The students of Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab, visited Center for Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) led by Mr. Hassan Siddiqi (Lecturer). Director CEMB Prof. Dr. Tayyab Husnain welcomed the delegates and thanked Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Akhtar for sparing time from her extremely busy schedule.
While explaining about the functionality of the center Dr. Tayyab told the delegates that they are aiming to diagnosis of infectious disease like hepatitis, tuberculosis and many other diseases the government established PCR based clinical test center. It is actually a nucleus center for advanced studies in Molecular Biology established in 1986. Later on, the Ministry of Education upgraded it as a National Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology.
Dr. Qayyum Rao, led the students and showed various labs of the center and briefed them about the courses offered by the center. Dr. Adrees, explained about the Molecular virology and its need for diagnosing the diseases particularly hepatitis, tuberculosis. He told the students that little attention of the concerned authorities may help in improving the output of our scholars.
While talking to the Education Times, students shared their experience during a visit at CEMB and said that they were amazed to see the atmosphere of the labs. Fiza Khan a student said that it was a right place to work where a scholar can grow and prove their ability.
During refreshment the faculty members made their chit-chat with the delegates. Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Akhtar thanked the director and other faculty members for providing this opportunity to visit. She appreciated the research work of the scholars and their contribution in producing the unique researchers as per the requirements of the market.
