Speaker National Assembly and Old Hailian Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that the future of Pakistan is associated with the youth and it was their responsibility to lead the country. He said that the young graduates entering into practical life must get maximum benefits from the knowledge they obtained from their academic institutions. He was addressing Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce’s Convocation 2013 ceremony.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Senator Jahangir Badar, Principal Hailey College of Commerce Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali, Registrar Prof. Dr. Amin Ather, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that it was a matter of immense pleasure that the historical college had started M. Phil and PhD programs for the first time in the history. Remembering his stay in the college, the speaker said, “I used to work with my father during my studies and I was an average student. But I was an outstanding player and used to play cricket and badminton. That’s why, my ‘gugly’ clean bowled Imran Khan.”
He said that he chose to live in room with rent of 200 Euros instead of 800 Euros in Geneva. He said that with the cooperation of China, Pakistan’s parliament would become the first ‘green parliament’ in the world and the Chinese government would bear all the expenditures amounting to 6 million dollars.
He said that LED lights were being used to save energy. He said that European Union & United Nations Development Fund would cooperate for infrastructural development of the Parliament House.
He said that he had written a letter to Higher Education Commission and 28 universities in Pakistan to introduce a course related to Parliamentary affairs. He said that his role as Speaker of the National Assembly was completely objective as he was elected by almost all the members. He said that students could become President and Prime Minister of the country and could obtain the position whatever they wanted but there was only need to work hard.
Addressing the ceremony, PU VC Dr. Mujahid Kamran said that ALLAH has blessed Pakistan with immense and countless resources but the basic reason behind the problems being faced by the country was violation of the Quranic instructions in which Muslims had been directed to seek knowledge and resolve the mysteries of universe.
He said that Muslims were facing problems in the world because they have almost no share in creation of new knowledge. He said that destruction was the destiny of the nations that kept themselves away from knowledge. “Knowledge is the source of power and respect but no nation can become knowledgeable without the strength of character,” he added.
Citing the research of Australian Jewish scientist Gideon Polya from his book Body Count, he said that there had been 1.3 billion avoidable deaths during the period 1950-2005 of which 600 million were Muslims.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Liaqat Ali said that for the first time in the history of college, PhD classes had been started and today they were awarding 14 degrees to the first batch of M.Phil program session 2011-2013. Earlier, 14 M Phil, 80 M Com and 433 degrees were awarded to the successful students and medals were distributed among the position holders.
