British Educationist and Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister, Sir Michel Barber’s documentary on “Roadmap to Education” screened at Punjab University Al-Razi Hall in the presence of jam-packed audience.
The film highlighted the educational problems related to student enrollment, dropout rate, teachers performance, attendance and other issues besides providing their solution to increase literacy rate of the largest populated province of the country.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood was the chief guest of the ceremony. He said Punjab was the only province that established curricula authority in the light of the 18th Amendment in the constitution. To a question regarding medium of instruction, he said earlier English was made the medium of instruction, however in the light of a new study regarding learning capacity and tendency of children now the government has decided that from class first to three the medium of instruction will be Urdu while from class 4 to onwards education will be imparted in English.
Speaking on this occasion PU vice chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran praised chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Education Minister Rana Mashhood and Michel Barber for their efforts and coming up with a practical roadmap and solution package for all problems related to basic education. He said primary education was the most important step in the whole education systmen but unfortunately in the past primary education was ignored badly.
Michel Barber said international media was portraying negative image of paksitan and projection its false image before the world. He said the people of Pakistan and its youth are very creative and hard working.
To a question regarding control of dropout rate, he said quality education and student satisfaction, teacher’s performance, school management and parents role all are related to one another to overcome this problem.
