The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore remained open on Sunday and observed anti-dengue day as per directions of the government of the Punjab.
An awareness seminar, a walk, inspection of cleanliness of campus premises and residential areas, collection and laboratory test of water samples and distribution of pamphlets and other material featured the day.
Addressing the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha called for collective and continued preventive measures against the dengue menace. He urged the university employees to ensure cleanliness on the campus and university residential areas so that dengue larva would find no breeding place there.
Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Dr Muhammad Imran Rashid and Dr Muhammad Oneeb gave presentations on various aspects of dengue fever, its various stages and treatment. They also threw light on development stages of dengue from its eggs to larva and full grown mosquitoes. They recommended various preventive measures against the dengue mosquitoes.
The seminar was followed by a walk led by the Vice-Chancellor to create awareness about the dengue menace. A large number of employees participated in the seminar and the walk.
Later, pamphlets and other material were distributed among the residents of the university residential colony and adjacent areas. Water samples were collected from various areas of the campus and they were tested in the laboratory but no dengue larva was found in any sample.
