The Government College University, Lahore team Tuesday won the Mili Naghme Singing Competition (Male) held at the university’s Bokhari Auditorium under the auspices of Punjab Youth Festival.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony of the competition, which was adjudicated by eminent singer Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, Abdur Rauf and Saleem Bazmi.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof Rahman encouraged the students to participate in the extracurricular activities. He said that patriotic song is beautiful form of music, which arouses patriotism in people. He said these songs evoke the people their history and let them eulogize their historic struggles.
Ustad Hamid Ali Khan said that the singers are the cultural ambassadors of the country. He praised the GCU’s contribution in development of music and said this university has produced a lot of legendary singers and musicians including Khuwaja Khursheed Anwar, Shakoor Baidil, Amjad Pervaiz, Tariq Farani, Sharaft Ali Khan, Waris Baig, Jawad Ahmad, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Rustam Fateh Ali Khan, Hadiqa Kiani and Ali Zafar.
In the end, Vice Chancellor gave away shields to the winners of Solo Category including GCU’s Usama Babar (first position), PU’s Gufran Chishti (second) and GCU’s Sharyar Abid (third)
